Lewis Hamilton: Formula 1 star assures fans he ‘hasn’t given up’ and is ‘still fighting’ after worrying Instagram posts

Lewis Hamilton has allayed fears over his mental health and wellbeing by assuring fans he ‘hasn’t given up’ and is ‘still fighting’ after a number of worrying posts on Instagram.

Hamilton sparked concern on Tuesday by writing on Instagram that he feels ‘like giving up on everything’, saying the ‘world is such a mess and people don’t seem to care’.

Speaking about his concerns for the environment, he even told people to ‘go vegan’, claiming ‘it’s the only way to truly save our planet today’.

The Brit said he would take time to gather his thoughts and was offered much support on social media by fans, who feared for the Formula 1 star.

But the Brit has followed up his previous message with happier vibes, writing: “Good morning World. I just wanted to send a message of positivity to you.

“I hope your week’s been amazing and wishing you a great weekend.

“I appreciate all the positive vibes you’ve sent my way. I haven’t given up, I’m still right here fighting! #StillIRise.”

Hamilton is on the verge of winning his sixth F1 title thanks to a brilliant season on the track, and while he may struggling with personal issues, his Mercedes team – who won the constructors’ championship at last weekend’s Japan Grand Prix – have said his comments are ‘not related to racing’.

Hamilton’s concerning social media message from earlier this week, posted on his Instagram Story, read: “Hey world. I hope everyone’s enjoying their day.

“I’m sad right now with the thought of where this world is going. Extinction of our race is becoming more and more likely as we over use our resources.

“The world is a messed up place. World leaders either uneducated or don’t care about the environment at all.

“Agricultural farming is the largest pollutant we currently have by over 50 per cent, far more than our travel industry combined.

“I’m sad to see so many people, even close friends ignore what is happening daily.

“Education is key and we were taught that eating animal products was good for us but we’ve been lied to for 100s of years.

“Honestly, I feel like giving up on everything. Shut down completely. Why bother when the world is such a mess and people don’t seem to care.

“I’m going to take a moment away to gather my thoughts. Thank you to those of you who do give a damn about the world.

“It’s taken me 32 years to understand the impact I am having on the world and I’m figuring out daily what I can do to play a better part.

“I want my life to mean something and honestly up until now my life’s had no meaning. Being a part of the issue is not meaningful.

“Being part of the solution is and I’m striving to do better.

“I urge you, to do some research, find the compassion I know you have within you to recognise what you are contributing to in terms of what you eat which keeps the meat and dairy industry flourishing and therefore deforestation, animal cruelty, our seas and climate decaying on a daily basis.

“Go vegan, it is the only way to truly save our planet today. It can be done so quickly, all you have to do is put your mind to it.”

But it appears the 34-year-old is now in a better place.

Hamilton is currently 64 points clear at the top of the F1 world championship standings with four races remaining, with the Mexico Grand Prix up next on October 27.

His sixth world championship would see the Brit take a step closer to Michael Schumacher’s record of seven titles and further cement his reputation as one of the best ever drivers.
