Andy Murray has revealed he is hoping to form an all-British doubles partnership with Emma Raducanu at Wimbledon, with the tournament just four-weeks away.
The two-time men’s singles winner admitted their singles campaigns will take precedence at this year’s Championships, but sees no reason why the pair can’t form a dream team in the mixed doubles category.
Murray opted not to play at this month’s French Open at Roland Garros, instead preferring to concentrate on preparing himself for SW19 with plans to play a number of grass-court games in the lead up to the Grand Slam.
The 35-year-old revealed he has ‘high expectations’ of himself on grass this year and is hoping to improve his world ranking enough in the coming weeks to be amongst the Wimbledon seeds, following the banning of Russian and Belarussian stars from the tournament.
With grass-court tournaments on the horizon in Stuttgart and Queens Club in London in June, Murray has an opportunity to boost his ranking from his current position of No. 67 to make the seeds, which would help him avoid the likes of Novak Djokovic or Rafael Nadal in the early rounds.
Whilst Murray has his own personal objectives at Wimbledon, he admitted that the possibility of teaming up with Raducanu excited him.
It wouldn’t be the first time in mixed doubles for the Scot, having reached the third round at Wimbledon partnering American great Serena Williams in 2019, while he collected a silver medal at the London 2012 Olympics alongside Laura Robson.
However, on his chances of linking up with Raducanu, Murray insisted that it would depend on their individual results.

“Last year we talked about it, but we both ended up doing well in the singles,” Murray said.
“I would love to play with Emma at some stage. I’m sure we will both focus on having good runs in the singles, but yeah – I’d love to do that.”
A dream partnership between the two could make headlines at this year’s Championships in a move that would no doubt capture the imagination of the home crowds.
For Raducanu, the feeling is mutual and the 19-year-old recently made clear her ambitions to form an allegiance with Murray.
“Just once in my life, I’d love to play doubles with Andy Murray at Wimbledon,” she revealed when quizzed on the prospect.
But first, Raducanu will be aiming to go further than last year’s debut showing where she reached the last 16 as a wild card entrant.
