Essex and Surrey kick us off 24 hours earlier, though, with a host of international stars set to be on show.

Essex’s Pakistan seamer Mohammad Amir will aim to keep the likes of returning Australian Aaron Finch and England one-day star Jason Roy – the only man to hit two Blast centuries last year – in check.

Surrey’s Curran brothers, Tom and Sam, will also look to impress, although Essex spinner Simon Harmer is the most in-form bowler, having taken 28 wickets across his last two Specsavers County Championship matches

These blockbuster matches follow a day which saw the other two biggest men’s stars get walkovers as their opponents couldn’t last the distance.

Let’s hope for a bit more action today.

Mark Leiter Jr. gets the ball, and he is 1-0 with a 4.20 ERA and 23 strikeouts this season. This will be Leiter’s second career game against the Pirates

Germany boss Joachim Low has been delighted with his young team as they bid to beat Mexico and reach the Confederations Cup final.

The world champions – who are unbeaten in 13 games – left a lot of key players at home, naming a youthful squad for the tournament in Russia.

They finished top of a group containing Chile, who await the winners in Sunday’s final in St Petersburg.

“I’m really happy to be in the semi-final with this side,” Low said.

“Our main aim is always to be one of the last four teams in any competition. And you couldn’t necessarily expect that from this team.

“It’s nice that the team is bonding, because the players are spending time with each other off the pitch too.

“They’re incredibly happy to be here. Not a single player is seeking to be in the spotlight – instead they all want to succeed as a team.”

Hibernians have been battling for supremacy in a very competitive Maltese Premier League with the likes of Balzan, Birkirkara and Valletta over the last few years, although it was the Peacocks who got their hands on the trophy for the 12th time in their history in the 2016/2017 season, finishing seven points clear to secure not only the trophy but their return to European football.

Despite playing in Europe several times since the 1960s, Hibs haven’t actually managed to progress in a European tie since 2002 when they overcame Irish outfit Shelbourne. They will feel however, with the home advantage in the first leg, that a win this match on Tuesday night at odds of 11/10 with Sky Bet will put them in a very strong position to qualify for the next round.

FCI Tallinn have had to wait some time to make their Champions League debut after finally securing their first ever title in Estonia’s Meistrilliga last year. The club were formed only 15 years ago and have risen to the top of the tree in Estonia, although they’ll be hoping for more success in this year’s Champions League than they enjoyed in the Europa League last term.

The European champions are looking for their first victory in the competition and we are backing them to win a high-scoring game against the hosts

After the first round of matches in Group A, it is Russia who lead the table following their 2-0 victory over New Zealand. The hosts were comfortably the better team against the weakest nation in the competition, yet they will be in for an infinitely more competitive game against Portugal on Wednesday.

The European champions conceded an injury-time equaliser to draw 2-2 with Mexico in what was a highly entertaining finish to a good game in their tournament opener. Cristiano Ronaldo was named man of the match and while the Real Madrid forward did not score himself, he did provide a brilliant assist for his side’s first goal.

Leeds Rhinos will be without suspended forward Jamie Jones-Buchanan for their Challenge Cup quarter-final against Championship club Featherstone.

He has been given a one-game suspension by the RFL disciplinary committee for Grade B dangerous contact in Leeds’ win over Wakefield.

Rhinos have recalled Jordan Baldwinson from Featherstone to replace him, while Rob Burrow is out with injury.

Cory Aston returns for Rovers and could play against his parent club.

Brad Tagg has also been recalled but Chris Ulugia (ankle), Andy Bostock (arm) and Scott Turner (ankle) remain out.

The Chicago White Sox end their MLB baseball series against the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday.

The Baltimore Orioles have been in a major funk which has them trying to avoid the American League East basement. The Orioles had lost seven consecutive contests heading in to Wednesday and are looking like the in 2016 where the team looked like a challenger in the American League East before falling out of favor. The question is can the team regain their mojo or struggle going forward. As I see Baltimore I see a team with little speed and average across the board numbers at the plate which puts far too much faith in a below average pitching staff.  Chris Tillman draws the start in the final game of the series at the White Sox on Wednesday. Tillman comes off of a 16-3 loss at the Yankees with nine runs allowed on seven hits including three homers in 1.1 innings.

Elliot Daly’s late attempt at a 57-metre match-winning penalty fell just short as the British and Irish Lions lost narrowly to the Highlanders.

Second-half tries from returning captain Sam Warburton and Tommy Seymour looked to have put the Lions in control, before the hosts responded.

Owen Farrell dragged a Lions penalty wide before Marty Banks landed what proved the decisive kick in Dunedin.

It was a second loss in four games for Warren Gatland’s side in New Zealand.

Waisake Naholo’s try had given the hosts a first-half lead, before Jonathan Joseph replied with a converted score.

But Liam Coltman drove over for the Highlanders and Lima Sopoaga added his second penalty after the break to set up the nervy finish.

The British and Irish Lions gameplan is still “in its infancy”, according to attack coach Rob Howley, as the tourists prepare for Wednesday’s game against the Blues (08:35 BST).

After a scrappy win over the Provincial Barbarians, the Lions play the first of five matches versus high-quality Super Rugby opposition.

“Clearly our game isn’t fully in place yet, as you saw by the performance at the weekend, said Howley.

“We know we need to improve.”

Head coach Warren Gatland has been in bullish mood this week, defending himself against criticism of his supposedly direct ‘Warrenball’ tactics.

And Howley said the Lions training had been focusing on bringing “southern hemisphere-style rugby chaos” to their game.

“That’s how the majority of international sides play now, from chaos,” Howley said.

“The players are enjoying the speed and intensity in training. We have to adapt and play what we see. The one thing the players have really enjoyed is rugby chaos, it’s very unstructured.”

Following the Auckland clash, the Lions face a Crusaders side – unbeaten in 2017 – in Christchurch on Saturday (08:35 BST).
