Spanish Grand Prix 2023 LIVE: UK start time, schedule, qualifying and driver standings – Hamilton ‘saved photos’ on his phone to learn Red Bull secrets
Fernando Alonso will look to upset Red Bull’s dominance on home soil as the Formula 1 grid gears up for the Spanish Grand Prix.
Red Bull have won all six races comfortably this season, with Max Verstappen crossing the chequered flag first in Monaco last time out.
F1 schedule in FULL with UK start times for every practice session, qualifying, and race
Alonso finished second as he chases his first victory in F1 since he won at the Spanish Grand Prix in 2013.
But Mercedes will also hope to be in the fight – thanks to some sneaky help from lead driver Lewis Hamilton.
Verstappen’s Red Bull teammate Perez struggled in the principality after crashing out of qualifying and his RB19 was hoisted into the sky by a crane.
That decision led to his car’s floor being exposed and Hamilton joked that he had snapped the usually hidden underbody aerodynamics in order to help Mercedes close the gap.
Speaking on the Chequered Flag Podcast, host Rosanna Tennant said: “Lewis Hamilton was joking with me that he’s saved the photos of the floor of the Red Bull on his phone, and he’ll be looking at them very closely, zooming in.”
Red Bull team prinicipal Christian Horner claimed he wasn’t too fussed about leaks, first joking: “It’s very rude to look up people’s skirts.”
Horner later added: “It’s been a bit of a show and tell for all the teams this weekend. Everybody’s been up in the air at some point. So it’s the same for everyone.”
The rest of the paddock will be hoping to gain any inch they can as the grid heads to the track where Verstappen won his maiden F1 race.
Spanish Grand Prix: Date and UK start time
The race weekend at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is scheduled for Friday, June 2 to Sunday, June 4.
Two practice sessions will kick off Friday’s action starting from 12:30pm UK time, with the second later at 4pm.
A third practice is set for 11:30am on the Saturday, before qualifying takes place at 3pm.
Lights out for Sunday’s Grand Prix will be at 2pm.

Spanish Grand Prix: What has been said?
Red Bull chief Helmut Marko has responded to reports that Nyck de Vries – who drives for sister team AlphaTauri – only has this weekend left to save himself following a poor start to his F1 career.
“There is never a deadline. We just watch it and look at the performances,” Marko told Motorsport.com.
“When we have to act, then we will act. At the moment we don’t do anything.”
