Tennis player Yibing Wu collapses on court again weeks after health scare at Wimbledon

Chinese tennis player Yibing Wu collapsed at the Washington Open just weeks after his alarming collapse at Wimbledon.

The 23-year-old was 4-1 up in the first set of the first round clash against Japan’s Yosuke Watanuki but was forced to retire from the match.

Footage caught Wu, who’s ranked 90th in the ATP world rankings, staggered to the floor as he approached his chair.

After collapsing onto their chair, he was helped up by staff on court. Wu was then assessed by medics and it was deemed he couldn’t continue, meaning Watanuk proceeds to the final 32.

It bears a resemblance to his clash against Frances Tiafoe at Wimbledon with Wu appearing to collapse after suffering breathing problems on court.

He was checked out by medics with his heart rate reaching 187, an issue which appeared to be known to the player.

Wu was deemed to be okay to continue the first-round clash at SW19, however, he did go on to lose the match in straight sets.

It was later claimed that Wu had been suffering from indigestion.

The Washington Open contains Brit package Andy Murray, Dan Evans and Liam Broady, while Wimbledon surprise package Christopher Eubanks is also competing. American Taylor Fritz is the no.1 seed at the tournament.

In the women’s draw there will be a repeat of the fourth-round Wimbledon clash between Elina Svitolina and Victoria Azarenka, which ended controversially with the latter being booed off court by some fans.
