Red Bull chief Christian Horner makes statement on alleged leaked messages ahead of Bahrain Grand Prix
Red Bull chief Christian Horner has responded to an alleged leaking of messages, insisting he will not comment.
Horner had been cleared of wrongdoing by an independent investigation after being accused of coercive behaviour in his position as Team Principal of Red Bull.
However, leaked messages purported to be from Horner have since come to light and the 50-year-old has responded with a statement.
He said: “I won’t comment on anonymous speculation, but to reiterate, I have always denied the allegations.
“I respected the integrity of the independent investigation and fully cooperated with it every step of the way.
“It was a thorough and fair investigation conducted by an independent specialist barrister and it has concluded, dismissing the complaint made.”
Horner, who broke his silence awkwardly on Thursday on the ordeal, had been cleared of coercive behaviour towards a female employee on Wednesday with the Red Bull boss expected in the paddock for the Bahrain Grand Prix on Sunday.
It meant that he kept hold of his job, worth £8million a year in salary.
But Red Bull were plunged back into chaos on Thursday evening with messages purporting to be from the motorsport executive were leaked across the media.
The messages, which were sent by an anonymous tipper, were also sent to leading figures in Formula One including FIA president Mohammad Ben Sulayem and F1 chief executive Stefano Domenicali.
All the team principals were also copied, as well as Red Bull star Max Verstappen’s father Jos.
Horner, who is married to former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell, was cleared by the F1 team’s parent company Red Bull GmbH in Salzburg.
A probe was launched on February 5 with the results coming out on Wednesday.
A statement read: “The independent investigation into the allegations made against Mr Horner is complete, and Red Bull can confirm that the grievance has been dismissed.
“The complainant has a right of appeal. Red Bull is confident that the investigation has been fair, rigorous and impartial.
“The investigation report is confidential and contains the private information of the parties and third parties who assisted in the investigation, and, therefore, we will not be commenting further out of respect for all concerned.
“Red Bull will continue striving to meet the highest workplace standards.”
