Showing 6.30pm, 2 September: Latvia v Luxembourg international friendly

Latvia and Luxembourg go head to head on Friday as two of FIFA’s lower-ranked nations face off in an international friendly at the Skonto Stadium.

This is the sixth meeting between the sides with the Latvians winning each of the previous five, scoring 17 goals along the way and conceding just three.

Therefore, Marians Pahars’ men should be confident of continuing their dominant record and building momentum ahead of their opening 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Andorra on Tuesday.

Pahars has named plenty of experience in his squad including three of Latvia’s 15 most-capped players in Kaspars Gorkss, Andris Vanins and Aleksejs Visnakovs, while he could also hand debuts to the uncapped trio of Kaspars Ikstens, Boriss Bogdaskins and Kristians Damians Torress.

The Sarkanbaltsarkanie, who are ranked 110 in the world, struggled at home during the qualifying phase of Euro 2016 – losing four of their five matches – but did stop the rot with a 2-1 victory over Lithuania in the Baltic Cup last time out.

Nevertheless, they will certainly be the favourites to get a win here against Luxembourg, who are seeking a first away win for nearly eight years.
