Why does the Ferrari F1 car have blue details? Scuderia unveil new livery for Miami Grand Prix after team name change

Ferrari are synonymous with the colour red but have stunned fans by unveiling their special Miami Grand Prix livery – with blue paint!

The Scuderia will take the challenge to Red Bull in Florida this weekend with a special one-off customisation to their iconic red.

The Italian team revealed pictures of the new design on Wednesday with their traditional colour still serving as the main focus.

However, a striking blue has been sprayed onto the front and rear wings while there are also accents on the bodywork.

Ferrari drivers Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc will also adopt blue overalls for the entirety of the Sprint race weekend.

Why does Ferrari’s car have blue details?

Ferrari’s design for the Miami GP comes after the team announced Hewlett-Packard as its new title sponsor.

While the computer giant’s logo will debut on its cars and the drivers’ race suits, their involvement has not caused the blue change.

Instead, the one-off alteration will mark the 70th anniversary of Ferrari’s presence in North America.

It features two historic shades of blue – Azzurro La Plata, which echoes the colour of the jersey worn by Ferrari’s first world champion Alberto Ascari in both 1952 and 1953.

Azzurro Dino is a deeper shade that was favoured by some of Ferrari’s later drivers including Niki Lauda, and Clay Regazzoni.

“The upcoming Miami Grand Prix will be one to remember in the history of our team, as in Florida we will be celebrating our heritage through a unique livery, rediscovering two colours that are part of our history,” said team principal Frederic Vasseur.

“It will also be a very special race as we are glad to welcome the arrival of our new title partner HP.

“Scuderia Ferrari and HP share many values, including a winning mentality and a clear line of thought that forms the basis of our partnership.

“Our two companies always strive for excellence and embrace technological innovation, key elements in achieving our respective goals.

“Like us, HP believes in the importance of ensuring that everyone in its organisation can give of their best, as that’s the only way to get great results. In addition, we believe in the need to nurture talent, teaching and empowering people as exemplified by our Driver Academy.

“With so many things in common, we believe that HP’s title partnership will greatly benefit both marques and I can’t wait for us to start working together from this weekend.”
