Martin Brundle laughs nervously as he’s made to jump after nearly getting backfired by Lewis Hamilton’s car

Things nearly ended badly for Martin Brundle, who was nearly backfired during the grid walk at the Miami Grand Prix.

The legendary F1 commentator laughed nervously after getting a fright from the engine of Lewis Hamilton’s car spluttering.


Brundle, albeit for a very brief period, lost some composure

After landing interviews with popstar Camila Cabello, beauty entrepreneur Charlotte Tilbury as well as wife of Mercedes chief Toto Wolff, Suzie, Brundle turned his attentions to the cars on the grid.

It was when analysing the back of Hamilton’s Mercedes, starting in eighth spot, when Brundle lost a little composure for a very brief moment.

Brundle began: “These are the lights that you see flashing – “

It was at this moment where Brundle jumped and laughed nervously after almost getting backfired by the vehicle.

But ever the professional, Brundle continued: “That just backfired and nearly took me away.

“These are the lights flashing when they’re harvesting or in the rain. Luckily that hit me on the knee and not anywhere else, that Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton.”

In what’s been another season threatening to be dominated by Red Bull, reigning champion Max Verstappen starting on pole with teammate Sergio Perez in fourth.

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz qualified in second and third respectively, while McClaren duo Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri came in front of Hamilton and Mercedes teammate George Russell (seventh).
