The former world No. 2 also asked for privacy and insisted that the two would remain as friends.

She wrote: “After careful consideration and many cherished moments together, Stefanos and I have decided to amicably part ways.

“We have shared a journey filled with love and learning, and it is as friends with immense mutual respect that we now choose to move forward on our own paths.

“As we transition into this new chapter of our lives, we continue to wish each other nothing but the best in all our endeavors.

“We kindly ask for privacy during this time, and we thank you for your understanding and respect.”

Tsitsipas, currently seventh in the world rankings, and Badosa even held a joint Instagram account, which had over 87,000 followers.

However, the account was deleted before the break-up was announced on social media.

The Instagram page had several posts on it, including support for each other’s careers and updates on their relationship such as holiday snaps and selfies.

The two started dating early last year and quickly became every tennis fan’s favourite couple.

Badosa was born in New York City in the United States but represents Spain, where her parents are from and where she lived after moving to Barcelona at the age of seven.

The 26-year-old has won over $6million in prize money and reached as high as No. 2 in the world rankings in 2022.

However, injuries have hit the Badosa hard over the past couple of years and there have been question marks over her career.

Tsitsipas, meanwhile, has yet to win a Grand Slam, though has finished runners-up at the Australian Open in 2023 and French Open in 2021, losing both times to Novak Djokovic.
