Showing 2.30pm, 28 October: WGC – HSBC Champions Golf

Rory McIlroy shot a six-under-par 66 at the WGC-HSBC Champions in Shanghai but is six behind leader Hideki Matsuyama.

The four-time major winner carded seven birdies in round two on Friday at Sheshan International.

But that was only good enough to reduce his deficit by a single shot thanks to a brilliant 65 from Japan’s Matsuyama.

Scotland’s Russell Knox is three behind the leader after a second round 68 with English trio Richard Bland, Ross Fisher and Paul Casey also in contention.

Matsuyama, who is a career-high 10th in the world after finishing second and first in his last two events, had 10 birdies and four bogeys in an opening 66 and went one better here today.

Showing 12pm, 29 October: SPFL- Aberdeen v Celtic

Derek McInnes thinks Celtic present a more daunting challenge this season but still believes his Aberdeen side can beat the champions on Saturday.

And his confidence has not been dented by the midweek loss to Hamilton Accies.

“Rather than come back towards the rest of the teams, I think they are actually getting better,” said the Dons manager.

“But we feel a bit of pride that we’ve managed to put up some sort of fight with them the last couple of years and have beaten them a few times.”

Celtic overpowered Aberdeen 4-1 in the first meeting between the sides in Glasgow back in August.

And Saturday’s visitors are seven points clear of the second-top Dons, with a game in hand.

“Celtic have got good players, they’ve got good form, I think they’re playing with good confidence, there’s a better feeling about Celtic at the minute, with togetherness even with their support – they believe in their manager and they believe in their team,” said McInnes.

Pablo Zabaleta is also out but Vincent Kompany, who made his first league start since April on Saturday, is fit.

City are without a win in five games in all competitions and manager Pep Guardiola said he will rotate his side.

“Some are going to play. I need to see the players in training and after we will decide the team,” he added.

United are also yet to win in the league this month – they lost 4-0 at Chelsea on Sunday – but Guardiola said he “always expects the best” from City’s neighbours.

Showing 8.05pm, 20 October: Manchester United vs Fenerbahce

Robin van Persie insists he could be lining up for Manchester United, rather than against them, on Thursday night if Sir Alex Ferguson had remained as manager.

The Dutchman is travelling back to Old Trafford for the first time to face the club he led to their 20th English league title since leaving for Fenerbahce in 2015.

Van Persie, who was named United’s Player of the Year in the 2012/13 title winning season, has previously spoke of his devastation at hearing Ferguson’s retirement plans only a season the 33-year-old joined the club.

Van Persie risks infuriating Arsenal fans with United comments

He then served under David Moyes before fellow Dutchman Louis van Gaal allowed him to leave for Turkey, where he has scored 17 goals in 35 appearances since.

When asked if he felt he would still be at United had Ferguson stayed on, Van Persie said: “We will never know.

“It could have been that I could have been a player for Manchester United today.

Showing as we open, 20 October: Bangladesh v England

Batsman Joe Root says England will not underestimate Bangladesh when the two-Test series begins in Chittagong on Thursday.

England have won all eight of their previous meetings, but Bangladesh drew home series with Pakistan, India and South Africa last year.

“It’s Test cricket. I don’t think you can ever take it lightly,” said Root.

“They’re a very exciting side with some very dangerous players. We’re going to have to play really well to beat them.”

Captain Alastair Cook suggested England would select three spinners and three seamers for the series opener, against a side that have not played Test cricket since August 2015.
